I have been waiting on for this moment for a while now and finally the time has arrived. This blog is in relation to India’s performance in Olympics. I wanted to write this on the day when India got its maiden gold medal in an individual’s game to create history, but the consequences have made me to postpone it to write on the day India won a bronze medal.
The day Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal has got a special place in history and will be remembered for years to come. The day was so special even here at my place of stay(IIT Kanpur). Having finished the busy schedule of the morning, I hurriedly reached the mess. I just reached on time to avoid the entry of almost 100 first yearites at once(now I think you understand why I had to hurry). This day has been in the very beginning of the semester and the juniors were in all their spirits in doing their activities in a disciplined and timely fashion. So as soon as the class ended at 1300 hrs(Indian Standard Time), they would hurry up to the hostels for lunch. The news of India receiving gold had started flowing in slowly to every corner of the mess and every corner of IIT. It was the time when everyone felt very much proud. It was still the time of ragging and you could see the sight of seniors asking juniors to shout at the top of their voice - Mera Bharat Mahaan( My country India is great) in the mess where there are already a hell lot of noises. It was the time when the inherent love for the country of the people could be seen expressed. It was in fact a day of celebration even at IIT. Within minutes, there were congratulations showered on Bindra even in the internal newsgroup of IIT. As soon as students finished their lunch, students hurried to the so called TV Room of the hall to get a glimpse of the historic moment and see Indian National Song being played as Bindra was receiving his gold.
Kudos to Bindra….
And now I hear that India won a bronze medal too…..
Mera Bharat Mahan…
